New Music: Hien — Boy
Hien (Hien Thanh Nguyen) has an interesting cultural background, being born in Hungary to Vietnamese parents. She says that cultural diversity informs her musical influences and style, such as with her new single, Boy.
The sensuality of the RNB meets electro arrangement is the perfect foil for Hien’s vocals. Smooth and sultry, the symbiotic fusion of her soulful nuances with the coy – but obvious if you spot the signals – sexuality of the lyrics captures the danger and romance of frowned-upon love. There’s a Prince-like quality to the song in that blending, which makes the erotic overtures of Boyhard to resist.
As for the inspiration for Boy Hien has this to say: ‘The track highlights the complexity of LGBTQ relationships, public perception, and the tough realities thereof, which shines a light on the beauty of love between two people, regardless of gender.’
Boy is out now, with Hien’s music also available on Spotify and Soundcloud as well as other digital outlets. Catch up with her on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to find out more about this intriguing artist.
