Hien Thanh Nguyen is young musician born in Hungary. Having been born into a Vietnamese family in Hungary made for an interesting duality of cultural influences growing up.

At the age of 14 she was selected to the Hungarian version of American Idol called ‘Megastar’ where eventually she made the finals. As a result she was offered a record deal and released her first album ‘Játék az egész’ in 2009, which became the top23 best-selling album in Hungary. Her first music video ‘Túl Szép’ won the best music video award at the VIVA Comet, where she performed as well in 2011. Her second single and music video ‘Játék az egész’ reached top1 on the chart list of VIVA (Hungary’s main music TV network).

2011 was a milestone for her, since she became her own songwriter starting with the single ‘Not Livin In Yesterday’, which became a top1 hit on the chartlist of the biggest Hungarian radio, Class fm.

Her second album ‘Sweet Talk’ with all her original songs came out in 2013. She released 4 music videos from the album. ‘No More’ and ‘Édes Kis Suttogás’ appeared in multiple chart lists of MAHASZ, which is the Hungarian Billboard. She had a sold-out album release concert at the A38 ship, which has been the best venue in the world according to ‘Electronic Beats’ Readers’ Poll 2012.

She performed in several live TV shows that were broadcasted on the Hungarian national television.

In 2015 she played ‘Kim’ as the leading role of the musical ‘Miss Saigon’ at the Operett Theatre. The show was the top1 popular event on the biggest Hungarian ticket-selling website. In the same year she won the women of the year prize in the category of singers at the Glamour gala.

At this time her image and style of music changed direction from Pop-RnB to Indie-electronica. This change started with her single and music video ‘Shapes and Colors’ and continued with the music video ‘Love Again’.

She was invited to perform twice at Miss Universe Hungary, which is produced and directed by Andy Vajna, producer of films such as ‘Terminator’, ‘Rambo’, ‘Evita’.

In 2016 she played in a musical called ‘The game maker’ which had 12 shows and attracted 48,000 people. She also sang the theme song of the musical.

With her band she got to perform at Sziget Festival (one of the biggest festival in Europe) accompanied by a symphonic orchestra.

She released a duet called ‘Viszontlátásra’, which debuted at the Fonogram Gala 2016, which is the main music award gala in Hungary.

Hien has been active in Berklee’s scene too. She got selected twice to perform at Singers Showcase. She represented Hungary at the International Folk Festival. In her first semester she had her first caf show. She performed at the Annual Encore Gala with the Middle Eastern Fusion Ensemble.

Recently she was shooting a TV show called ‘Trip to the moon’ as one of 7 musicians who were writing songs and performing while traveling around Europe for a month.

Budapest-born singer, HIEN’s new single showcases her indietronica (electronic + indie pop) style in a song strewn with sexual innuendos. Although not apparent at first, the track highlights the complexity of LGBTQ relationships, public perception, and the tough realities thereof. Paired with a stunning music video shot in Hanoi, Vietnam, “Boy” is a grooving topical track, which shines a light on the beauty of love between two people, regardless of gender.
